Is Destination Oh Yeah! an exotic place, a unique workout, a super food, a euphoric feeling and that ultimate place where you can finally proclaim, “I’ve arrived”? Not at all. Certainly it can include an incredible vacation, a new way for you to move and get active and flavorful meals. BUT – it can also be finding fresh ways to enjoy the space around where you live, creating engaging ways to do common things and eating affordable raw snacks that require no prep.

God gives all of us abundant opportunities to live life beyond the routine, predictable auto-pilot approach to uninspired living. Fitness is functional freedom to be the life of Christ to others. Workouts aren’t supposed to dominate your thoughts, finances and time. Getting fit isn’t about taking control of your life.  It’s about making your purpose firm in God. Pursue the plan established for you.  Through God’s Spirit you’re destined for an incredible place. This is #destinationohyeah

    Obstacles – on the course or in the Christian life – don’t block the way. They are the way. OCR is like having your prayer time right there in the mud, and experiencing God’s power to overcome.

    Although I was a weightlifter, football player, and boxer in high school, I got pretty soft as I aged. After a car accident in my late forties left me in pain; I had to face the fact that I was just too weak to withstand a serious impact. I also heard God whispering that it was time to step up my game for the challenges ahead. That’s when I started pushing back and working out again. I ran my first marathon at forty-nine and then started obstacle course racing. To date I have competed in Spartan Races, Rugged Maniac events, Terrain Race, and trail/road marathons.

    The toughtest event so far was my second marathon – 26.2 miles of trail along the Potomac River. The temperature was 90+ and the humidity was brutal. Aid stations were spaced about five miles apart. I saw runners dropping from heat exhaustion and laying on the ground at water stops. Completing that race at age forty-nine was a faith booster I will never outlive.


    Through our retreat God has revived and strengthened our gifts. We need to keep renewing our minds every day.

     


    This picture is symbolic of all of the hard climbs we have to face in life. Yes, there is suffering at times, but with Jesus as our rock, the view is always beautiful at the top of the mountain when we persevere with faith, hope and love.


    Getting out into the deep ravines of my home in Indiana is always a special retreat with God. Exploring with my grandchildren makes it an especially fun and refreshing time.


     

    This couple who serves in the U.S. Navy knows how to keep active while enjoying time with their child. Running is a great way to train for a race and to spend time alone with God and those who are close to you.


    Last year I passed through Charlotte. I’d read about this whitewater center.  In addition to the man-made river where people practice shooting the rapids in a raft or kayak there are climbing walls, zip lines, and places to bike and skate.
